Keeping A Theme

Two more storefronts, one from San Telmo and one from Villa Crespo. The first is a rather strangely named laundromat and the second is a rag tag shoe repair shop. Its really the lettering more than anything else that does it for me.

Storefront Return

Three different styles. The first image is rather typical of downtown Buenos Aires, where small, sparsely decorated cafes dominate.

The second image is of another ubiquitous site in this city, the kiosco. What the bodega is to the Bronx, the kiosco is to Buenos Aires.

And the final image is of yet another common city site. Hardware stores, as well as tire and paint shops abound, all helping to support the Argentine do-it-yourself attitude.

While all of these storefronts are of a common type, I think that these three have something special, whether they know it or not.

Signs of the Times

Been away for a bit because its a war of American and Italian stereotypes in the streets.

Different Terms of Seduction

A prime of example of a storefront to keep on walking past.  And while it is a mystery as to what this shop sells, it is not the kind of mystery you should stick around to figure out.
This storefront on the other hand is outstanding in more ways than one.  Artfully disheveled and welcoming, this is the type of place you want to spend an hour investigating, talking to the shop owner and trying to find that perfect item. And you just might feel like you you've been let in on the secret as you walk out the door.

Bored? Go Spend Some Dough

A couple more notable storefronts, one from Colonia , one from Buenos Aires.  The second image reminds me a place where a wild-eyed mad genius spend his days rearranging old televisions into a machine that would allow him to speak to extraterrestrials.  Sort of a Christopher Walken x Carl Sagan type character with a bit of elderly Thomas Edison mixed in.  I doubt that he ever actually sells anything.

Speaking of great storefronts, check out this New York Times slideshow of great Brooklyn finds.

And maybe an even better slideshow here, from New York Magazine. Enjoy.

Saturday Shopping

Two more storefronts to make you get up and go shopping.  The first is a small vegetable store in Colegiales and the second is a rental agency in Palermo Hollywood.  More coming soon.

Number One Store Selector

Two more notable Buenos Aires storefronts.  These two are from the San Telmo neighborhood, where you can still find a relative abundance of this older, classic type of purveyor.  I am off on a mission this week to collect enough of these scenes for a proper album.  Stay tuned.

Stop At The Storefront

A few beautiful storefronts from in and around our neighborhood in Buenos Aires.  These types of storefronts are quickly becoming a rarity even here, where old-timers are loathe to give up anything traditional.  The first store is an extremely and frighteningly cluttered hardware store and the second is an idyllic laundry, run by the smallest Chinese man in the world.
